History Master Choi Yong Sul (1904-1986) was born in Chung Chon province in South Korea.
During the Japanese occupation he was taken, still as a child, to Japan together with is family to work.
This singular Master had as students, among others, Morihei Ueshiba and Do Shin So – founders of Aikido and Shorinji Kenpo, respectively.
Knowing that leg techniques in Korean Martial Arts are very important he started to gain interest by Taekyun, and other similar styles.
Later, in 1948, he stars to teach is art, now with the name of HAPKIDO. |
